Interview with The Bagelier: Delivered Hot and Fresh from the Oven!
Almost everyone I know has a weakness for the sensational taste and smell of baked goods that are hot and fresh from the oven – so it makes sense that The Bagelier has capitalised on this to deliver fresh bread and other baked goodies straight to your doorstep. Today, I interview Yuko Yoshikawa of The Bagelier who is also a fellow Perth Food Blogger at umeboss.com.
WG: Can you describe your shop, and what you sell?
Bagelier: The Bagelier is an online bakery shop based in Perth Western Australia that offers freshly baked bagels and sweets delivered right to your door. We sell bagels, scones, cookies, and cakes.
WG: What inspired you to create an online shop specialising in bagels and other baked goodies?
Bagelier: Well, the biggest inspiration was my friend, who started up her first online bagel shop in Japan.
I love bagels too, and I thought “Hey there’s not many shops selling bagels!” I also love baking sweets such as cakes. Doing something on my own related to food was one of my dream since I was little!
WG: Why bagels and baked goods?
Bagelier: The answer is quite same as above: I like bagels (chewy ones) myself, and also like baking. Besides, it was easy to get the approval for bakery goods from the council. :p
WG: What is your dream for your shop? Do you plan to only do home deliveries, or do you wish to expand into other markets eg supplying your products to cafes and restaurants or even open a cafe of your own?
Bagelier: At this point I’m doing just home delivery service, but after I come back from my Jakarta trip (October) I’ll start more marketing. I’ve prepared fliers, business cards etc. I’ll try to get some suppliers (cafes etc) for my bagels and baked goods to re-sell in their shops too. At this point I’m not planning to open up an actual shop in Perth.
WG: You mentioned before to me that your culinary background was at Bentley TAFE. Did you specialise in being a Pastry Chef or a Baker or is baking just something you’ve always been interested in?
Bagelier: I have a qualification as a cook, but not specialised in pastry or baking. I just love baking sweets
WG: What is the average price of your products? What’s the cheapest product you have?
Bagelier: The average cost is about $1.90 for bagels, and $10.00 for sweets. The cheapest one are plain, sesame, and poppy seed bagels which are $1.30.
WG: Which suburbs do you deliver to?
Bagelier: From Monday – Friday: the postcode areas covering 6004, 6100, 6101, 6102, 6106, 6107, 6148, 6149, 6150, 6151, 6152, 6153, 6154, 6155, 6156, 6157, 6158, 6162, 6163
Saturday – Sunday: Anywhere within Perth Metropolitan area

Yuko has been operating The Bagelier since March 2009. I think it’s fantastic that dreams do come true if we concentrate and are determined to follow through, like how she has dreamt of owning her own food-related business when she was a little girl.
I have had the pleasure of trying some of Yuko’s bagels when I first met her in August 2009. For those who love Japanese-style bagels or perhaps just love green tea, you can try the macha green tea bagel. My personal favourite? It’s the blueberry bagel. Mmm… blueberries

I had no idea about this company, thanks for the heads up! Am curious to see how the bagels stack up against the amazing Montreal bagels I was spoiled with when living there!
Hi Angie! Wow this site looks awesome! I like the new theme!
I’m a big fan of bagels myself – I get them all the time from Croissant express, nicer than the usual bread buns. My only problem is when all the stuff starts falling out of the centre lolz
I wonder if there are such things as ‘bagel plugs’? Lolz
Another one thanking you for this! I plan to place a bulk order of bagels when I get my new freezer in January… Awesome stuff! I love bagels!
@Conor – another company you may be interested in is the Kosher Food Centre up in Menora. They don’t deliver though. Check out http://wanderinggourmet.net/2009/01/a-bagel-hunting-we-will-go/ – those bagels are awesome too
@Will – Thanks! lol I think bagels with plugs are normal buns… without holes in them :-p Maybe someone can come up with bagel plugs with toppings on them…
@Erin – no worries, glad I could help!
Oh proper bagels…how exciting ^^ I look forward to checking them out in the near future
When I was in New York, I loved getting up early for fresh bagels. Brings back some fantastic memories.
Ooh, I bet you got some great bagels there, SK!
Conor @ ,
Montreal bagels … how does those bagels taste like ?
Will,
>My only problem is when all the stuff starts falling out of the centre
Toasted bagel sandwich holds up the inside part. If you like fresh (non-toasted) bagel sandwich, you can spread cream cheese or avocado on bagels and then sandwich some ingredients. The cream cheese/avo helps to hold the ingredients as you eat.
Erin,
Looking forward your order!
Maguro,
I don’t know if my bagels are “proper” ones, but I’m happy to hear any feedback
SK,
I love eating fresh baked bread too… Nice thing to start up a day with.
Oh, Angie
Thanks for writing about Bagelier, it’s awesome!
There were lots and lots of bagels on board the Norwegian Sun cruise liner which brought me from Santiago to Bueno Aries. Some of my perth friends (20 of us) just have bagels and fresh ham for breakfast. Hi ! do you know a Malaysian from Sabah is the Manager of the Food Department.
