Wendys Burgers – Pepper Stacker Burger Review

by angie on July 9, 2009

You’re probably wondering what I’m doing reviewing a burger by itself. Ooh, have I sold out and is this really a paid review? Nope, not at all!. Today Esther and I represented the Wandering Gourmet at the Wendy’s Pepper Stacker Media Review. Yes, the WG Represents! :D

Wendy's New Pepper Stacker!

If you’re in Kuala Lumpur, you may have seen the ads around on discount coupon websites like Offerstation or at your local Wendy’s outlet about some random burger called the Pepper Stacker. Personally, I love it when companies come up with new products so I don’t have to go for the same old thing over and over again. So what’s in the burger, and what’s the fuss about?

According to the Marketing Reps for Wendy’s, the Pepper Stacker is currently the biggest burger available anywhere in Malaysia in terms of how many beef patties you can stack up in a single sandwich. The basic Pepper Stacker is onions sauteed in butter stacked on top of 2 beef patties smothered with a generous serving of Sarawak black pepper sauce encased in a softly toasted burger bun. If you’re hungry, you can stack the burger up to get this – 5 beef patties! Yikes, talk about a one way street to a coronary!

Wendy's Mosaic

But anyway – mmm… pepper sauce… beef… burger. Yum, that sounds good! Now enough of the marketing speak, let’s get down to the real review:

If food for the body was petrol, fastfood for the most is just another form of overly processed unleaded fuel that we eat to fulfil our tastebuds’s grease quota.

Fortunately, Wendy’s restauarant chain is different as they make their food fresh and ready to order using their system called the ‘MFY’ (Made For You) which literally means that it is made to order just for you. This is something I can attest to as the Store Manager gave me a store tour which was familiar to other burger-related fastfood outlets I’ve worked at but with a real difference – they put a real emphasis on making food fresh for you and funnily enough, the kitchen was more organised than Australian fast food kitchens!

Sure enough, within a few minutes of ordering a um, 5 stack Pepper Stacker *hides*, my fresh and hot burger was ready for me to devour. The world famous Sarawak Pepper is quite strong and as a result the new Wendy’s sauce was quite strong. Hygiene freaks beware – upon opening the burger wrapping, I found the burger in a bit of a gooey mess.

Wendy's New Pepper Stacker!

However, don’t let that get you down – the burger is one of the best burgers we’ve ever tasted in our lives. The new Wendy’s sauce was a real flavour sensation as the spicy black pepper gravy danced around on our tongues. If you are a bit of a hygiene freak (or just don’t want to dirty your hands), you can ask the Cashier for a knife and fork or you could be brave and eat it with your bare hands. Whatever you decide: it’s totally utterly worth it.

As part of a special promotion, you can get free Pepper Stackers! Are you eager to find out how to get the freebie – heck, who doesn’t love free stuff? We’re Asian after all. :p There are two ways to get your freebie:

* Play the Wendy’s Stack Challenge – buy a Pepper Stacker and play Jenga against a fellow Pepper Stacker Eaters. The winner wins a free burger

* Practice the Pepper Stacker Chant – buy the burger and get one free if you can say this lovely tongue twister:

“Peter Piper picked a pack of Pepper Stackers. A pack of Pepper Stackers Peter Piper picked. If Peter Piper picked a pack of Pepper Stackers, where’s the pack of Pepper Stackers Peter Piper picked? Wendy’s!”

Or if you’re too lazy and unsocial to do the above, then you can just print out some coupons from Offerstation or get the discount coupons in-store. Or you could just fork out $4.99 for the basic burger and add 99 cents per additional pattie stacked on top (maximum of 3 extra on top). In total, the 5 stacker costs around $8 including tax.

Wendy eats the Pepper Stacker!

As a Marketer, I absolutely love the promotion ideas as they really engage the customer. For those who are pro-home made and like to help to boost the local Malaysian economy against the terrible economic crisis, the Pepper Stacker is made with 100% Malaysian ingredients and is exclusive to Malaysia only.

If you’re a burger lover, eat beef, and love spicy black pepper sauce like most Malaysians – then this is totally a match made in heaven for you.

Wow! Great post! It’s true though, the burgers were fantastic…. A little too spicy for my rather sensitive stomach but otherwise, …. *thumbs up*

Thanks Esther! Yes, the burger’s not too good if you’re averse to spiciness but most Malaysians. :(

Maybe their next burger will be a non-spicy burger that everyone can eat. :D

Talk about shitake mushrooms with cheese on a new Mushroom stacker :-D Yum!

Haha, a new Mushroom and (real, non-plastic) Cheese Stacker sounds good to me. The original healthy fast food burger. :D

Although one year for school camp, the only vegatarian in my year group got a “vegetarian hot dog” which was literally a cooked carrot inside a hot dog bun.

LOL! What’s up with Pipi in the photo? Compared to a HJ’s Whopper…. which is better?
=D

angie July 19, 2009 at 3:07 pm

lol@Pen. “Pipi” is actually Wendy… as in “Wendy’s”. I haven’t had a Whopper from Hungry Jacks in a while so I can’t really say although they really can’t be compared as they are two different items. I guess for me it depends whether I’d want something a bit spicy and more saucy or just a plain but still tasty burger for lunch or dinner.
