Bateman Chinese Malaysian Eating House Restaurant Review – Slurping on Fish Head Noodle Soup
Tucked away on the quieter end of Parry Avenue near Murdoch Drive at the Bateman Commercial Centre is the Bateman Chinese Malaysian Eating House. Thanks to this tiny Chinese restaurant, this commercial centre truly becomes alive.
This casual restaurant is famous for its Fish Head Noodle Soup. In fact, it is the number one reason why anyone actually goes to eat there, despite the fact that they do cook other delicious noodle dishes such as char kuay teow. For the uninitiated, you’re probably grossing out right now thinking, “OMG, how can you eat that?” and imagining a dish of piping hot broth complete with noodles and fish heads bobbing in it. If that is what you’re visualising, wipe that image from your mind. Trust me – the fish head noodle soup is not as unappetising as it sounds.

We ordered an individual serves of the fish head noodle soup ($9.50). No fish heads are actually served, but rather 3 deep fried fish fins or “fish wings” which are stacked on a plate.
The soup was brought out steaming hot, and had mee hoon noodles (rice vermicelli), sliced tomato wedges, and pickled cabbage in it.
Slurping away on the salty-sour broth along with small bites of the fish wings were were perfectly crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside was simply divine.
As they say, you can tell when an Asian restaurant is authentic by the amount of Asian people eating there. This place is no exception, and it has been this way for over a decade. If you aren’t in by 12 pm, you will have to wait for a table so it is best to go in by 11.30 am unless you are prepared to wait. But trust me – it is worth the wait for those who love their fish head noodle soup!
Most of my memories of eating at the Bateman Chinese Malaysian Eating House were mostly having lunch there after my TEE exams as my high school is located just down the road, so it was really great to see that nothing had really changed in 10 years.
If you are feeling a wee bit adventurous, you will find that Bateman Chinese Malaysian Eating House makes fish head noodle soup in Perth at its very best.

I’m glad there are no fish heads served! When you mentioned that was the speciality at Bateman Chinese Malaysian Eating House it did perk my interest but more in a gruesome/weird food way… like that show on telly, Bizzare Foods lol
Oh I love Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern! He’s really adventurous.. and has probably eaten real fish heads before.
Great review although I’m not really a fan of fish head noodles :p
