Dragon-I Restaurant Rocks!
Having passed Dragon-I for 3 years walking down the corridor between the Cititel and the shopping centre, my dining companions and I decided to finally decided to eat here. Dragon-I’s claim to fame here was that they serve MSG-free food, which was very important as I was on medication due to the Madam Kwan incident. That, and it was a quick dash to the toilet and hotel room if I needed it.
The restaurant is really slick and modern with terracotta warrior statues, a small water feature, and an almost open gallery kitchen where the Chefs wearing their ‘trendy’ Chef hats and surgical masks are lined up behind the counter making their creations. You can also see them in the morning preparing for the day ahead, which is always a cool sight to see when walking to and fro the hotel lobby and the actual mall.
Dragon-I has also put their creative mark towards creating better table service. They have solved this issue by providing buzzers at each table connected to a central computer where you can buzz for service, water, or the bill. How innovative! I reckon that should be a mandatory feature in all restaurants.
We shared the:
Sliced pork shank and jellyfish
Drunken Chicken, which is semi-cooked chicken drowned in cold wine… as you can see it was slightly red, but still edible. :p
Tar Sar Bau (Red Bean Steamed Buns) – almost too cute to eat! As you can see, we became morbid and started eating its nose and ears before attacking the head… kind of reminds you of how kids eat tiny teddies eh? We’re total monsters…

Shanghai dumplings, also known as soup dumplings, are their speciality. It’s a bit tricky getting the dumpling out of the steamer bun without creating a whole in the dumpling, but I guess that’s just the nature of the dish.
Shanghainese Braised Belly was nice and soft with a mix of soy sauce and other herbs. It didn’t look like the picture in the menu, but it tasted really nice.
La Mian – gorgeous handmade pulled noodles which lay beneath the mince meat sauce.
Spicy dumplings – I didn’t eat this, but this was Esther’s favourite dish
It was all absolutely delicious. I particularly liked the tar sar bau cos it was so darned cute. It was almost too cute to eat!
My dining companions and I really loved Dragon-I. The price is on par with other more high-end places, but you get good service, excellent quality food, really comfy chairs, and air-conditioning comfort. Plus the Waitpersons don’t really stare at you when you try and take photos with the terracotta warrior…
I can’t believe we hadn’t eaten here before as the food was sensational. I hope the photos proved the drool worthiness of the food here! I’ll definitely be taking family and friends here for a thank you or celebratory dinner the next time I’m back in KL.

The spicy dumplings were soooooooooooo good
And the fake terracota soldier looks way too short to pass off as one of the real thingies. Btw, the pig bun has nothing in it. It’s plain, no red bean paste
It has red bean paste. We had to eat its red insides… too bad it wasn’t a pork filling. :p
Wow that’s some amazing presentation, and it looks like some really tastey food. It looks extremely drool worthy. Those buzzers are a great idea! hopefully they make it to australia soon!
It’s a bit pricey, but if you have the money and are looking for good msg-free food in a very nice, air-conditioned location – it is totally worth it.
The buzzers are pretty awesome eh?
Australia needs to catch up. :p At least we have the PDA ordering system now at a lot of restaurants and cafes. :p
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog.
Cheers! Sandra. R.
They do sell mooncake like last year. But people were telling that the mooncakes not made by dragon-i own chef. Is that true ?
