Nyonya Colors at The Gardens in Mid Valley
Although it is in The Gardens Mall, from the outlook it looks just like a kopi tiam. I absolutely love the quaint décor. On the walls are shelves filled with beautifully decorated jars, tea pots, and more. My favourite pieces were the chairs. Look at these beautiful chairs, aren’t they so cute?
As they are reminiscent of kopi tiams, they serve food that you can typically find in a kopi tiam. . If you come here later in the evening at about 8-9pm, you can find Malay-style cakes or kuih that are discounted.
As FT and I were here for dinner, FT had the Nasi Lemak and I had the Mee Siam with Honey Chicken (both RM$8.90). I actually wanted the curry chicken but it was sold out. 
FT’s Nasi Lemak was really good, and so were my noodles. But I kind of felt gypped with the chicken because it sort of tasted like a honey chicken crossed with sweet and sour chicken – but not quite right.
We also ordered 2 teh tarikh’s (pulled tea), but I got gypped again because mine didn’t have enough sugar but FT’s was perfect! Just not my day, I guess.
Location: Lower Ground of The Gardens, in the bit that adjoins the Mid Valley Mega Mall. If you’re coming down from the Mega Mall’s Centre Court, go straight past the camera shops, past Tony Roma’s, past the Doughnut shop, and it will be somewhere on your right.
p.s.- For those who aren’t sure what Nyonya means, they are an ethnic group of people of both Chinese and Malay descent.
the nasi lemak looks good. for the interior, the simple old style is back heh. first time seeing such chairs
Yes, the nasi lemak was good. I like the simple style as it looks unique. I agree, the chairs totally rock.
i ate at nyonya colors mid valley this evening for dinner. the ondeh was masam but was too late cos i already popped one into my mouth.
i told the staffs at the cashier to smell. then they smelled all 12 boxes of ondeh2 left and it’s all basi.
however, the cashier n staff was very reluctant to return my RM 1.90 which was not a matter of $. was upset they did not apologised at all, and she made muka masam to me.
worst experience in nyonya colors gardens. not going there anymore!!

Hey Lim, I’m sorry to hear that your experience with Nyonya Colors at The Gardens have been far from pleasant.
In fact, I would have to agree with you that ethically speaking, the cashier or upper management people should have at least apologised as opposed to scowling about. I find that it does not only happen with Nyonya Colors but with other Malaysian establishments as well ( that I shall not dwelve into ) and it has left me seething with anger.
I can only pray and hope that you would make a speedy recovery
ive an extremely bad experience with nyonya colors though their food is pretty good but it ended up me in a hospital with surgery and RM8,000 medical bills. i had dinner at nyonya colours in Gardens, the next morning.. about 9am i had a really bad stomach ache. I passed motion twice, both times watery… and my stomach ache was persistent.. 1 day later i was admitted to the hospital for food poisoning, typhoid and intestine obstruction. they had to cut me open and pumped my stomach. my best advice, never go there to eat.

But its strange because I’m a regular there and had no such experience of stomach aches because of their food before! I absolutely love the yellow laksa there. The only thing I would complain about Nyonya Colors is that sometimes their food isn’t quite consistent and its difficult to find a seat during their peak hour. I would still recommend this place to friends who are looking for good nyonya kuih and yellow laksa. Mmm.

I am the GM of Nyonya Colors. You have made a very serious allegation against Nyonya Colors. On any given day, we serve hundreds of meals to our customers. Had our food be the cause of your unfortunate food poisoning we would have had many similar complaints from customers who had eaten the same day as you did. There wasn’t any. I wish to assure our customers that our Gardens outlet in Mid Valley City maintains very high standard of food hygiene and food safety. We are one of the very few outlets in Mid Valley Mall that is HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point ) certified. We were certified in April 2009 and there was 1 year of preparation before obtaining the certification. Internationally, this is probably the most highly regarded certification in the food and beverage industry. Our outlet is subject to an independent quarterly audit by the international Lloyd’s Register Group. We also have a local firm of consultants to provide us monthly guidance on food handling to ensure all procedures are strictly adhered to. Every 3 months, we are required to have 3-4 types of food and 3 swabs (taken on surfaces of staff hands, chopping board, etc.) tested by an independent Lab for any biological, physical or chemical contaminants. We have internal procedures that requires temperature to be taken regularly for cooking, food warming and hot holding (every 4 hours). These are all recorded for traceability. Over the years we are greatly indebted to our many loyal customers who enjoy our food. While we do sympathise the sufferings you underwent, we cannot accept your finger-pointing without substantiated evidence. Your comment has unfairly smeared our reputation.

I do remember you phoned me to complain about the incident. I did apologise to you when you told me you felt very offended by the way our staff responded when you asked for a refund. I did subsequently investigate and was told by the respective staff that you had earlier bought a packet of Ondeh Ondeh along with a drink and ate at the shop. After consuming it you went to buy a second pack. That was when after partially eaten the second pack you suspected it was not fresh. You complained to the Counter staff and demanded your money back. Our staff refunded for both packs although she was reluctant initially to refund the earlier pack because you had fully consumed it. If there is any comfort to you at all, I did severely reprimand the staff concerned and reassign the staff to other duties for 2 months. I hope you do not take the incident to represent the way Nyonya Colors treats its valued customers because you told me you had been a regular at our 1-U outlet. We have a clear policy of giving complete refund if our food does not live up to quality standards and at the slightest doubt to take the necessary step to remove all items related to it. We have also intensified our training to ensure that all our staff understand it.
Less SURGAR AND PORTION is the way to go!!!!
All restaurants staff temporary or permanent should be trained for 1 week before they serve customers.
The manager should at least train his or her staff properly and not pointing fingers to other restaurants. Keep your lawn nice and green and weedless. You will get all praises!!!!!
Staff training and retention is such a key ingredient in making a food service business thrive. Whilst I understand and empathise with the owner, there is simply no excuse for regrettable service, and it does damage your reputation.
