Ooh, the Chocoalte Temptations! – Chocolateria San Churro, Fremantle

San Churro's Chocolate Tapas Platter

To sin, or not to sin? That is the question asked by chocolate lovers around Australia. San Churro is an Australian chain store tempting the urges of Aussie chocoholics with its sinful chocolate delights. And boy, were we tempted – so tempted that my dining partner and I decided we should go all out despite my semi-lactose intolerance condition. Now that’s taking a bullet for love! ;-)

The Chocolate Tapas Platter which cost around $20 for 2 people, consisted of churros which is a Spanish kind of doughnut modelled after you char kway (Chinese doughnuts), chocolate dipping sauce for the churros, ice cream, 2 kinds of truffles of your choice, chocolate pretzels, and much more. What’s best is that you can choose whether you want dark, light, or milk chocolate dipping sauces for the more picky chocolate eater!

Sadly, looks were deceiving as the thought of delicious desserts faded as we bit into our meal. The churros were too chewy which was difficult to gulp down especially after the wood-like prime aged rump I had at Outback Jack’s. San Churros prides itself of being a great chocolatier without the wank factor. I beg to differ as the chocolates in general were of quite average quality. Something I do like though is that it is trying to keep up with new food trends. A new food trend in the USA is salt sprinkled on top of chocolate. This can be found on the chocolate covered salty pretzels and a peanut butter truffle with a light sprinkle of salt on top.

This may have been an off day, as I’ve heard both raving reviews and disappointed reviews about Freo’s Chocolateria San Churro. However, on behalf of Perth Chocoholics, I gladly welcome San Churro and hope that more chocolate bars like the Lindt Cafe, Max Brenner’s, and Koko Black make it over to the west.

Oh yes, bring on the Lindt Cafe! I’m sick of reading all the reviews from eastern states bloggers!
