Secret Recipe – The Best Cake Shop in the World
I believe I have found the best cake shop in the world that caters to the ordinary person. That shop is none other than Secret Recipe cafe. According to my cousin, this multi-award winning cafe started with very humble beginnings as a small cafe or cake shop in 1 Malaysian shopping centre. From this single shop, it has grown massively on both a national and international scale.
Just like any normal cafe, they do serve main meals and entrees. At the Secret Recipe in KLCC, Esther and I have shared the Roasted Chicken with Turmeric Sauce. The roasted chicken chicken thigh mixed with the garlic, turmeric, and coriander gravy was sublime. The chips were good, but the vegetables were a bit too raw.

But who cares about the mains – the real reason why people eat at Secret Recipe is to enjoy their amazing cakes! They have a wide variety of cakes for sale, but FT, Esther, and my all time favourite cakes are:
Durian-Durian Cake – only available during the seasons when durian is ripe, this is the cake FT drools over. Although the actual cake is a vanilla cake, it packs a durian punch with 3 layers of durian filling. Also, I think the crust/top layer bit is actually like whipped durian mousse or something which gives it that extra kick.

Chocolate Indulgence – it’s a really sinfully delicious cake and best for anyone who loves their chocolate. This cake has both Belgian chocolate and white chocolate fillings. It’s to die for. It’s so delicious Esther and I have once fought over the cake. It’s a long story… *glares at her* :p

When I was there recently, they were trialling a healthy cake range. Some of them were failures in our opinion, but one really stood out as being a clear winner. When you look at the cake, it sort of looks like someone dug it out of the ground or the compost heap, but the texture from the Hi-Fibre Cheese Cake’s grains, seeds and nuts makes this cake really different yet divine. Maguro declared this cake as being really good, despite her dislike for cheesecakes.
Other favourites include Mango Cheese cake, White Chocolate Macadamia cake and their legendary Chocolate Banana cake. Yum.

The hi fiber cheese cake looks like decomposing poo.
Hi Angie,
Yes, we both stay in perth
I haven’t tried the hot chocolate places you’ve mentioned. Where are they?
oh my…
u should try their marble cheesecake, the base of the cheesecake is amazing.
i havent found any cheesecake as good as secret recipe’s back in Melbourne.
$ensei – yes, yet you love it.
Thanks for the additional photos! *hugs*
Gluttons-Epic is in West Perth, Lincolns is in Mt Lawley-ish area. I’ll hop onto your blog in a sec to give you the addresses.
lc-actually, $ensei/Esther is originally from Melbourne and she once said to me exactly the same thing – that there aren’t any cakes as good as Secret Recipe back in Melbourne. Australia needs to lift its cake! (Get it. Sorry, bad joke :p)
Cheese cakes :p
Yes. Australia needs to lift its cheesecakes :p
Argh.. I SOOOO want to eat durian…. Durian cake …oh yum!
Jane – I’m pretty sure you can buy durian cake somewhere in Perth… but for the life of me, I can’t remember where…
Love their cheesecake and normal cake. My favourite is their banana choc cake. Yummy.. Hard to find nice cake here in Perth without paying arms n leg.
I think Cafe Mozart here isn’t too bad in terms of prices and cake quality, from memory. I’ve only had their cake a few times though – one of their Mozart ones and I shared a lemon cake and a princess cake with my friend. The Princess Cake is way better than Miss Maud’s any day!
can i havee the add to the shop in perth? cheers
Hi Lily
Sadly, Secret Recipe doesn’t have a store location in Australia. I’m not sure when the chain plans to move to Australia but so far I do know that it’s not on the list as acquaintances of mine have tried to contact Secret Recipe to bring it down to Australia but they were denied for some reason… Maybe it’s not in their current expansion plans?
Sorry about that!
I hope i can always eat Secret Recipe’s cheese cake. Yummy…… !
Cake Mozart is in Belmont Forum.
They have Secret Recipe in Melbourne now. Its opening soon on Chapel St, Prahran
.
.
BTW, Crown food court cakes are really yummy too, my cousin reckons its better than Secret Recipe in M’sia. They also have another restaurant in Crown that has a wide variety of cakes to try for those cake lovers
Well they have arrived in Australia. That would be why they denied selling rights. They have been planning to open in Australia for a while now and though behind schedule, the first shop opened up at 247 Chapel Street last week.
YUMMMM
247 Chapel Street, Melbourne?? Yum , i am going in march.
we are also waiting for one in Perth.
Since we are on the topic of cakes. Why not make full use of our fruits to make this lovely entree or light lunch, this sensational salad combines pears with creamy blue cheese, honey-roasted walnuts, salty prosciutto and peppery rocket. Use any of the baking pears or simply slice fresh pears for a quick alternative.
INGREDIENTS
4 small pears
2 tbsp walnut oil
Freshly ground pepper to season
8 fresh thyme sprigs
150g freshly shelled walnuts (600g in shell)
1 tbsp honey plus 1 tsp extra
Pinch sea salt
100ml olive oil
i hope the secret recipe in australia is a good as the one in asia!
